June 6: Sunday Matinee Added for Spirit of the Marathon Film

Because race registration and ticket sales have exceeded our expectations, we’re a bit worried about a large crowd at Meet Me Downtown on Saturday night.  To accommodate a possible sell-out at the Fox Theatre, we’ve added a matinee showing of the film on Sunday, June 8th at 2:00pm.

Every registered participant of Meet Me Downtown will receive a free ticket to the Fox, and you can now use that ticket for the first-come, first-served Saturday night showing or for the matinee on Sunday, June 8th at 2:00 in the afternoon.   Just show your bib-number at the Fox door on either day.

Remember, every registrant can also purchase one additional companion ticket for $5.00.  All additional walk-up tickets for both shows are $10 per ticket.   Both showings are open to the public, and race registration is not required for walk-up tickets (free entries are limited to only a single showing, though).

Ten more details about the race on Saturday night:

  1. Don’t forget that you can bring your bib number to the Hotel Congress Saturday night and receive 2-for1 beverages at the Tap Room and the Cup Café.
  2. Although we’re expecting a large crowd, there’s plenty of street and lot parking nearby, particularly on the north side of Broadway.  Please arrive early so that we can start the race on time.
  3. Because the course loops back on itself by the Presidio footbridge over Broadway, we’re a bit worried that the top runners will be returning over the bridge as the whole crowd is still going.  To help avoid any confusion, if you’re in the back of the pack, please hurry over the bridge and watch for the front runners to be coming toward you.  Dogs, bikes and anything other than feet and baby strollers are not allowed.
  4. Tucson Police Department and volunteers will be placed throughout the course, but please watch for traffic and vehicles.  Following USA Track & Field protocol, we strongly discourage the use of headphones.  (That’s why we have The Tryst rockin’ out for you!)
  5. Bathrooms at La Placita will be located downstairs at Gold’s Gym, upstairs in the SW corner of La Placita, and over at the TCC.
  6. We’ve printed new “SAR Children’s Running Brigade” t-shirts, and we should have about 50 to give away free to any child under 12 – come to the SAR tent for first-come, first-served kids shirts!
  7. Because we anticipate that the Fox might sell out, we will give out some random raffle prizes before & after the race (raffle prizes include gifts from Hotel Congress, the Fox Theatre, the Running Shop and Endangered Architecture Magnets).  Age-group awards will be distributed at the Fox Theatre after the race.  If you win an age-group prize and you cannot pick up your award on Saturday night, please visit the Running Shop starting on Monday June 8 to pick up your Top Finisher t-shirt.
  8. Please see a general FAQ on the SAR website for additional information.
  9. Finally, the City of Tucson’s Channel 12 will be filming the event for their show Desert Living, so be sure to brush your teeth, wear clean clothes, and smile for the camera!
  10. Beneficiaries include the Fox Theatre and the scholarship programs for Greater Tucson Leadership’s community leadership courses.

Thanks again for signing up for the race!  If you’re not a SAR member, please consider joining the Southern Arizona Roadrunners.  See our web at www.azroadrunners.org for information on member benefits.
