Wow! So many wows from the 39th Annual Dr. Gann’s Diet of Hope Cinco De Mayo Running Fiesta! Over 1000 people crossed the finish line including 10k runners and walkers, 5k runners and walkers, assisted wheelchair athletes, and FitKidz!
I have to start by saying none of this would be possible without volunteers. It takes 75-80 people to put this race on, from packet pickup to setting up cones at 3:30 in the morning. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
The Cinco De Mayo 10k was the Road Runners Club of America State Championship. Overall winners are recognized on a national level. Female winners were: Lauren Reasoner (Overall), Tia Accetta (Masters), Sharon Silvas (Grand Masters), Mary Black (Super Grand Masters). Male winners were: Bjorn Wastvedt (Overall), Orlando Velazquez (Masters), Bob Jones (Grand Masters), and Richard Senti (Super Grand Masters). Mary Black set a state record for the 65-69 age group with a time of: 52:08
The 5k also had some speedy finishers. Thomas Franco was the overall male winner with a finish time of 20:25. Second and third were taken by David Jeck and Michael Durkin, respectively. Lisa Barriga lead the women with a finish time of 22:58, followed closely by Katie McNulty and Sharon Snyder. Kathy Wong set a state record for the female 80-99 age group with a finish time of 46:58.
Anyone that won an award, but did not get it at the race, can pick it up at Fleet Feet 7607 N Oracle Rd #121, Oro Valley 85704 until May 20th.

2. Cholla High School Mariachi Program to fund their performances, including transportation.
3. La Frontera’s La Paloma Family Services. Funds will help cover the cost of extra- curricular activities for children placed in foster care.

The weather was cool, the burritos were hot and the mariachis were a hit! What more could you ask for at Sunday's Dr. Gann's Diet of Hope Cinco de Mayo 10K and 5K. Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and sponsors for your support. This race could not happen without your support and dedication to the Tucson running community. This run has become one of the most family friendly running events in Tucson. With the 5K, 10K and Fitkidz 1 mile, there really was an event for everyone.
Dr. Gann's Diet of Hope was the Title Sponsor again this year. Dr. Gann has sponsored this event for over 20 years now! New this year were our two Gold Level Sponsors: Desert Diamond Casinos and Entertainment and Clif Kids. The new Clif Kids corner was a huge success as kids enjoyed Clif kids snacks and tested their hand eye coordination in the wrapper grab contest.
Dr. Gann kicked off the awards ceremony where the overall and age group winners received engraved margarita glasses. Overall and first place age group winners also took home gift certificates to Fleet Fleet Sports. In the 5K, on the women’s side first place went to Stephanie Wenneborg (20:59), on the men’s side Raymond Langlais (18:03). The 10K overall winners were Tia Accetta (39:50) and on the men’s side, Robert Scribner (34:01). A huge congrats to them powering through this challenging course! In the team competition, it was a close battle but in the end The Workout Group came out on top with the most participants, winning themselves $75 to Borderlands Brewery and $100 to Magpies!

It was a perfect day for racing at Dr. Gann’s Diet of Hope Cinco de Mayo Fitness Fiesta! Over 1000 participants and spectators came together to run or walk the 5K, 10K and Fitkidz 1 mile in the hills of Starr Pass. The weather was perfect, the burritos were tasty, and the mariachis were a hit. What more could you ask for?
After the popular sombrero kids race, Dr. Gann kicked off the awards ceremony. In the 5K, on the women’s side first place went to Jan Smith (22:45), on the men’s side Zach Westman (17:38). Top place masters winners were Catherine Horness (22:33) and James Webster (19:37). The 10K overall winners were Lauren Reasoner (40:28) and on the men’s side, Anthony Franciso (34:20). Masters winners were Stephanie Wenneborg (42:04) and Dave Dixon (38:25). A huge congrats to them powering through this challenging course! Thanks for coming out to participate in Dr. Gann’s Diet of Hope Cinco de Mayo 10k and 5k! The event was a huge success with close to 1000 participants! The new 5k was a big hit and the 10k continues to be one of the largest and most scenic in Southern Arizona. Everyone had a blast with the fun post race festivities. As temperatures rose, the water balloons that were launched into the crowd seemed welcomed!
Congrats to Dari Duval who won the women’s 10k with a time of 41:05 and Anthony Franciso who won the men’s 10k with a time of 33:19! Our Master’s division winners were Sylvain Lebreton with a time of 37:42 and Michelle Hawk with a time of 44:40. And congrats to our 5k winners, Robert Seamen with a time of 17:18 and Tejal Parikh with a time of 22:55 and our 5k Master’s winners, Frank Hannibal with a time of 21:55 and Caroline Gardiner with a time of 25:31.
