Sun Run Race Report 2010
Greg Wenneborg January 24, 2010The weather leading up to the 2010 Sun Run had us a bit worried…a tornado touching down in Yuma, a blizzard warning for Pima County, 138MPH winds recorded at Kitt Peak, roads closed and flights cancelled due to weather. This certainly wouldn’t be the first year the Sun Run did not feature any “sun”. But lo and behold, the weather on race morning couldn’t have been any better! Blue skies and a 40 degree start made for some fast times and a great way to kick off the 2010 SAR racing season!
The Sun Run 10K overall winners were Craig Curley and Tia Accetta. Craig, a Pima XC/T&F alumnus, just returned from the Houston Half Marathon, where he ran 1:04, qualifying him for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. Craig easily won the 10k in 30:19. He was followed by Raffael Huber, an orienteer champion visiting from Switzerland. Tia Accetta was a powerhouse, easily winning the 10K in what we believe is a lifetime PR of 36:19. She was followed by Paula Morrison, the 2009 Grand Prix winner. The 10K Masters divisions were won by Eddy Hellebuyck (34:23) and Janet Stamper-Holland (42:32).
The Sun Run 5K overall winners were Nick Cramer (16:47) and Maggie Diller (20:35). The 5K Master winners were Dave Dobler (17:50) and Melody Mustafa (23:15).
The 2010 Sun Run Kids Dash was again a hit! Over 50 kids ran and won goody bags provided by Craig Dabler Jewelers!
Please check the Sun Run results page here. If you won an overall or age-group award and were not able to attend the awards ceremony, your award is waiting for you at The Running Shop, 3055 Campbell Ave Suite #153.
A HUGE “THANK YOU” to Sharon Bart and The Running Shop! The Running Shop donated most of the overall and age group awards as well as hosted the packet pick-up. Even with 10-year age groups, we had over 220 awards to present! Thank you Sharon! Your generosity was overwhelming!
We’d also like to thank our other race sponsors. Kirsten Cooper and Cooper Fitness, David Niccoletti and Compound Pharmacy, Rebecca Taylor and Little Red Media, Craig Dabler and Dabler Jewelers, Larry Schnakenberg and Schnakenberg Financial Services, Adventure Coffee Roasting, Xoom Juice, Edward Arriola and Aries Sun Massage, and Ordinary Bike Shop. Please support your race sponsors!
Thank you to all the runners who made additional donations. There are SO many of you! Some runners donated a few bucks and others donated over $100…thanks to each of you!
Thank you to Steve and Sheryl Felde and the other volunteers who made our race a success! Your kindness is not overlooked! Thank you to Joe Cuffari for his timing expertise.
Thanks to all the Pima kids who flipped pancakes, worked registration, manned the water stations, placed and picked up cones, and helped clean up.
