The 2019 Sun Run lived up to its recent year history and started off under cloudy and rainy conditions. The majority of the runners loved the weather though and said that it was way better than the heat. Finishers included: 250 10k runners, 175 5k runners, and 130 Fit Kidz children which beat last year's record of 77 children. Way to go Diane and Jeri for all of their hard work in managing the kiddos!! The 5k course was mis-marked at the start area, and most people ran anywhere from 3.23 miles to 3.42 miles. Historically the 10k route caused some confusion at Lakeshore Dr. and 22nd Street. This year went smoothly with only 1 person getting lost and running about a mile extra. The 10k runners said everything was well marked and volunteers were knowledgeable. The rented pancake griddle would not light and pancakes were unable to be served. Diane bought donuts as a substitute and I have not heard of complaints regarding lack of pancake service. Changes for next year's event will include correctly marking the 5k start and finding a restaurant or local vendor to cater pancakes. A big thank you to: The Running Shop, CBD Products, Peak Action Physical Therapy, and UA Cognitive Development and Brain Functions for being sponsors of the event; Team Hoyt AZ for providing coffee for the athletes; Road Runner Race Timing for timing, setup, pickup, and management services; Steve & Sheryl Felde for managing volunteers; and a HUGE thank you to Diane Manzini, Steve Outridge, and Lucas Tyler for being a sounding board and helping in all aspects of the race and to all the people who helped with race registration and race day.
