The third annual Feeling Fit 5K was held on Saturday January 16, 2010 in Sahuarita. It was a beautiful morning and over 100 people competed in the 5K. The course was certified by Dave Hill last year and is fast and challenging. Paula Morrison of Tucson was the overall finisher with a time of 18:15 followed by Brian Wargaski of Vail with a time of 19:39. Many SAR members came out to support the race which benefits Sahuarita charter school Great Expectations Academy. Participants enjoyed plenty of free Subway subs, Sertino’s coffee, jumpers for the kids and live music by the local band Legend’s. Prizes were also raffled off to participants and included gift certificates from Performance Footwear, Tri- Sports and other items from vendors. Desert Diamond Casino was the presenting sponsor and they were on hand with many free items for all. Look for the 4th annual Feeling Fit 5K coming in January 2011!More
Members of the Southern Arizona Roadrunners are invited to be part of a fundraising dinner Sunday evening (January 17) after the PF Chang’s races. The fundraiser dinner benefits the Hall Steps Foundation. Ryan and Sara Hall have offered to be a part of a unique, fundraising dinner benefiting their foundation. The evening will consist of Ryan and Sara talking about their running, the Steps Foundation, and an opportunity to ask questions to the top distance runner in the world. The Halls will stay for dinner, sign autographs, and host a silent auction with a number of unique items.
The Hall Steps Foundation (http://www.thestepsfoundation.org/) aims to use the lessons of running to encourage people to take “small steps” toward the marathon goal of tackling such issues as clean water, children’s poverty, and leadership development. Steps has partnered with existing organizations to make a more direct impact in developing countries. Ryan and Sara Hall created Steps in 2009 as a vehicle to leave a lasting legacy beyond running. Ryan is the top half-marathon in the USA and a 2008 Olympian. Ryan is preparing for the upcoming Boston Marathon with races in Phoenix and New Orleans. Sara is an accomplished international runner who competes in shorter distance events.
The dinner is Sunday evening (January 17) at 6 pm in Scottsdale and is intended to be a small, intimate evening to relax and interact with one of the top runners in the world. The goal is to raise $10,000 for the Steps Foundation. If you are interested in attending please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org. Tickets for the fundraising dinner are $100 and your donation will go to helping the Steps Foundation.
Please join the Southern Arizona Roadrunners at our annual dinner, on Sunday evening, January 24th, 2010 at El Parador restaurant (2744 E. Broadway, west of Country Club). Our goal is simple: have fun by socializing with friends, strangers, and comrades from our running community. The agenda includes social conversation from 5:00-6:00 with music from the Determined Luddites, the regular Meet Me At Maynard’s band. Other activities include a word from club President, Mary Lasser, including recognition of the Children’s Fitness Fund award winners and recognition of the Rob Bell Memorial Award winner. The SAR volunteer committee responsible for managing the Running Shop Grand Prix is coordinating recognition and awards for the Volunteers of the Year and the Grand Prix overall and age group winners.
Cost: $12 Adults, $5 Kids (kids menu chicken fingers and french fries)
