Race Description

The 4th Annual Carondelet Get Moving Tucson is scheduled to take place in Downtown Tucson on Saturday morning, October 18th. This is the 29th running of the annual SAR 10-miler and 5K running race & non-competitive family fitness walk.  (please note, due to conflicts with other city events, we’re still working out the final dates)

Date and Time

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2008, Tucson Convention Center, Downtown Tucson
7:30 AM start for the 10 mile running race
7:30 AM start for the 5k race and family friendly walk.

Come join Carondelet Health Network and the Southern Arizona Roadrunners for a world-class event in the heart of Downtown Tucson:

  • Great courses winding throughout historic Downtown Tucson - 10 miler goes over scenic Basket and Rattlesnake Bridges, along Fourth Avenue and through the UA - the 5k family-friendly walk and run winds throughout Downtown neighborhoods. See course info.
  • Weekly “Training Talks” on KVOA 4 at 4:00 – every Monday afternoon starting in August
  • Great weekend getaway: Discounted hotel pricing at the historic Hotel Congress and the Arizona Hotel for out-of-town visitors - both are within walking distance of the start/finish line
  • Be serenaded by the Japanese Drummers (Tucson Taiko Kyokai)!
  • Raffles for all, age group awards, and prize money for top runners
  • Plenty of post-race food and drink courtesy of Morrison’s Health Care Food Service; Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, and Gatorade

  • Great post-race festivities for the whole family, including music from 92.9 The Mountain, face painting, jumping castles, climbing wall (courtesy of the YMCA), health screenings, and more!

Race Distances and Courses

10 mile running race:  The 10-miler begins and ends at the Tucson Convention Center, and will wind through historic Downtown Tucson, the Basket Bridge, the Rattlesnake Bridge, the Fourth Avenue district, and the University of Arizona. The 10-miler is part of the Running Shop Desert Grand Prix, with prize money, age group awards, and raffle prizes to all.  View the preliminary race course-map.


5K race and family fitness walk
The 3.1 mile course will let you share the fun with thousands of walkers and runners. Prizes and raffles in the running race, with a family-friendly non-competitive walk. All walkers eligible for raffle prizes.

Both Downtown race hotels offer discounts to all participants and are steps away from the start/finish line.

Registration

SAR is committed to providing high-quality events at a reasonable cost and pricing for Get Moving Tucson includes several early-registration discount options.  Event takes place rain or shine, with no refunds available.

Print a registration form, fill it out, and mail it with payment. Registration by mail must be postmarked by September 19, 2008.

In-person registration and early registration packet pick-up is available at The Running Shop (3055 N Campbell - map). Register for the race and pick up your goodie bag and race number on Saturday, September 27, from 10-3.

Race day registration & packet pick-up will be available at Tucson Convention Center, 5:30-6:30 AM. Please be sure to arrive early enough to register on time!

Awards

All 5k and 10-Mile registrants will receive a colorful t-shirt and will be eligible for a variety of raffle prizes.

Prize money to top finishers in 10-miler and 5k. All 10-mile and 5k prize money is courtesy of The Running Shop.

Age group awards in the 10-miler and 5k run presented to the first, second, third, and fourth place finishers in 10-year increments (under 15 in 5k, 15-20; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79, 80+).

Top three overall and Master's winner taken out of age group awards. All participants are eligible for raffle prizes.

Charities

Proceeds from the event will fund a host of local charities.
